What Causes Low Back Pain?

One of the most common causes of lower back pain is strain in the lumbar spine from over or improper use of the muscles surrounding the spinal bones. Unfortunately, our modern lifestyles often include poor posture while sitting for extended periods of time and decreased physical movement, which results in excess weight, tight muscles, and chronic or acute low back pain.

Disc injuries and sciatica can also cause severe pain, muscle weakness, and numbness in the low back. Oftentimes, the symptoms radiate downward resulting in leg pain or leg weakness. Other causes of chronic back pain could stem from spinal stenosis, abnormal spinal curvatures, and even neurological disorders affecting the spinal cord and nerve roots. Low back pain doesn’t just happen to those who are elderly or severely injured. The condition can be a result of a variety of causes, including:

COMMON CAUSES OF BACK PAIN

Disc Herniation

When the soft center of a spinal disc pushes through a crack in the tougher exterior casing it can irritate nearby nerves causing pain, numbness, or weakness in the pain and neurological dysfunction of a herniated disc can increase over time

Muscle or Ligament Strain

Repeated heavy üfting and awkward or sudden movements can strain your spinal ligaments and the muscles of your back. Those who are inactive or in poor physical condition can experience frequent, even constant, strain on the back

Spinal Stenosis

A narrowing of the spinal canal which can cause pressure on your spinal cord or the nerves that go from your spinal cord to your muscles. Spinal stenosis can happen in any part of your spine but is most common in the lower back. 14 Drag to to crop
